On 05/03/2012 a resident reported that she received a phone call from (876)458-5749. A male who identified himself in a heavy accent as "Mr. John Kingston" left a voice mail message stating that the resident had won $6,000,000 and needed to call him in order to receive this "prize". Fortunately, the resident did not return this call.
In researching this phone number, I found that many people have received a similar call and it is quite obviously a scam.
Please remember, if it seems to good to be true, it probably isn't!!!! Don't be a victim.

Please be alert for suspicious vehicles / persons in the area of abandoned homes, or unoccupied homes for sale. Law enforcement agencies in the northeast states have been reporting a large number of residential burglaries in which copper pipes are cut out of the home for eventual sale to scrap yards. In many of these incidents the home is further damaged by the flooding that ensues once the pipes are removed.
The most recent incident in our area occurred in Morris on 03/14/2012 at a private residence on West Street. In this case, an alert neighbor phoned police and the suspects were apprehended.
Please report suspicious activity to the Harwinton Resident Trooper's Office at 860-485-1421. Please note that if no one is in the office your call will be automatically directed to Troop 'L' in Litchfield.
Thank you,
T.F.C. Bill Arbour #315 |

Dear Friends and Neighbors, Trooper Nicholson asked us to notify you about an attempted car jacking yesterday. A black two door Chevy cavalier type vehicle year 2000 or thereabouts was parked near the reservoir off route 72 with the hood raised. When a good Samaritan got out of his vehicle to help, the white male in his twenties under 200 lbs approximately 5'8'' tall wearing a green hoody tried to steal the good Samaritans car. If you have any information about this case, please contact Trooper Nicholson at 860-485-1421 or using the report suspicious activity link to the left. Thanks so much for your help! |

The victim blocked several strikes with the handle of his shovel; however, one of the swings by the accused man struck the victim on his left forearm and broke the bone. There is no vehicle license plate information available. The accused man is described as a white male with facial hair, approximately five feet seven inches tall, weighing about 230 pounds. Over the past 35 years, Neighborhood watch programs have enhanced public safety by creating community-based partnerships to fight crime and to improve the quality of neighborhood life. In essence, Neighborhood watch is a crime prevention program that stresses education and common sense. It teaches citizens how to help themselves by identifying and reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
Watch groups were designed to look out for your neighbors not to watch your neighbors. Many individuals think that a watch group is a neighborhood policing organization that reports not only possible crime but also what each neighbor is doing in their own personal space. This is completely false, the group typically focuses on observation and awareness as a means of preventing crime and employ strategies that range from simply promoting social interaction and “watching out for each other” to active patrols by groups of citizens.
The Harwinton Neighborhood watch group network was created to link all of the Town’s area watch groups to what each were doing and to communicate to the general residents of Harwinton on how they can get involved and what they can do to prevent crime. This web site was designed to also give you quick links to safety, registered criminals operating in our areas, what to look out for and how to report suspicious activity in an instant.
This web site has also been designed to help educate everyone on what exactly a watch group is and how to look out for each other to prevent crime. A watch group is simply a group of organized individuals that want to help prevent crime in their area before it happens.
Lets protect our neighborhood and our children by joining together to help promote neighborhood safety, cleanliness and strange activity awareness. Thank you for visiting the website and would encourage you, if you are not already involved to get involved and join your neighbors in protecting our town.
